Information & Policies
Welcome to talktojaye. This page outlines the core policies and procedures that guide my counselling practice, ensuring a safe, professional, and ethical environment for all clients.
Safeguarding Statement
The safety and wellbeing of my clients is my primary concern. I am committed to protecting the welfare of all adults and children at risk who access my services, working in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
I have a formal Safeguarding Policy in place that guides my practice and ensures I have clear procedures for recognising, documenting, and responding to any safety concerns. While our sessions are confidential, I hold a duty of care to take appropriate action if I have serious concerns that you or another person are at risk of significant harm. This may include seeking advice from my clinical supervisor or, where necessary, contacting relevant authorities. Whenever it is safe and appropriate to do so, I will discuss my intentions with you to maintain transparency.
My practice is built on the principles of empowerment, prevention, and accountability, ensuring that your right to be safe and free from harm is upheld at all times.
Confidentiality and Data Protection
The content of our sessions is confidential. I adhere strictly to data protection legislation, including the Data Protection Act 2018. To read the full details of how I collect, process, and securely store your personal information, please visit my dedicated Privacy Policy page:
Professional Standards and Complaints
I am committed to providing the highest standard of care and attend regular clinical supervision to support my practice. Your feedback is important to me. If you are unhappy with any aspect of your therapy, please raise this with me directly. If you feel that I have not addressed your concerns adequately, you may contact the BACP, where I am registered as a member.
I like to start our work together by going through a simple agreement, known as the counselling or therapy contract, which helps us both feel settled and clear about how we will work together. This covers the practical side of things, like our session times and how we manage our diary. I ask that you let me know at least 48 hours in advance if you need to cancel or move a session, as this ensures I can keep our time together prioritised and well-managed. For cancellations made with less notice, I do have to charge for the session to cover the time reserved exclusively for you.
